This summer, one of our projects here at Innishfael was to take an old round pen and enlarge it to an outdoor riding ring.  During the times it would not be used for riding, I wanted it to be a hangout for Dragon, so he could be outside most of the time.  Dragon's Ring is right by the house and it also borders the mare pasture so he can see all the lovely ladies.  Directly to the West is the weanling round pen, so he has company in that direction as well.

The old round pen was 50 foot in diameter.  We added an eight foot tall windbreak wall that is 35 feet long, in addition to several extra panels and then put in four inches of sand on top so there would be good drainage and better footing.  The last part of the project is to put up a three-sided shelter so Dragon could go in and out if he felt like it, but it also is going to have a gate that can be closed when we use the ring for riding.   The shelter has two sides up right now - I wanted to share some of the building photos with you.

My husband tore a muscle in his back and so he was the 'Supervisor'.   I have injured my right arm and while it still works it is not strong enough to do very much.  Thank goodness we had help from our daughter, Dialaura, who did all of the drilling and cutting for us.   I guess you could say Dragon was another supervisor, too!

Dragon enjoys his new ring, lots of room and other horses to view.                           The windbreak wall

This is what I found this morning when I went out to do chores!!!!!!            Dragon says he had nothing to do with this....  thank goodness he is okay!

Now I am off to buy more panels and I will update this page when we get the ring finished (again) and the shelter completed.
